Poetry can treat our open wounds. Wounds we did not fully understand we’d been carrying —or the silent gashes within our hearts that sear in an instant, whenever we remember. In moments of loss and brokenness, poetry offers a brace and ointment to the writer as well as the reader. It has a powerful way of bringing us together. To feel touched or merely understood is the miracle of poetry.
